1. 1. Who we arePoe AI operates the website at poe-ai.net and the companion chat service reached through it. Where this policy says "we" or "us", it means Poe AI as the controller of the personal data described below.
2. 2. Scope of this policyThis policy covers information collected through poe-ai.net, through the Poe AI chat interface, and through any email you send us. It does not cover third-party websites you reach by following a link away from Poe AI.
3. 3. Age requirementPoe AI is intended solely for adults aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a user is a minor, the account and associated data are deleted.
4. 4. Information you give usThis includes an email address if you register, a display name if you choose one, the content of your Poe AI conversations, and anything you send us in support correspondence.
5. 5. Information collected automaticallyWhen you visit Poe AI we receive an IP address, browser type and version, device and screen characteristics, referring page, the pages you view and timestamps for those visits.
6. 6. Cookies and similar technologiesPoe AI uses cookies to keep you signed in, remember interface preferences and measure aggregate traffic. Strictly necessary cookies cannot be switched off; all others may be declined without losing access to your chats.
7. 7. Local storageSome preferences, such as which companion you last opened, are stored in your browser's local storage rather than on our servers. Clearing your browser data removes them.
8. 8. Why we process your dataWe process data to provide the chat service, keep conversation history available to you, prevent abuse and fraud, comply with legal obligations, and improve the quality of Poe AI.
9. 9. Legal basesDepending on your location we rely on performance of a contract, our legitimate interest in operating and securing Poe AI, your consent for optional cookies and marketing, and compliance with legal obligations.
10. 10. Conversation contentChat content is stored so that your companion can maintain continuity between sessions. Conversations are not published, sold or made available to other users of Poe AI.
11. 11. Automated processingCompanion replies are produced automatically. No automated decision with a legal or similarly significant effect on you is made on the basis of your Poe AI conversations.
12. 12. Service providersWe share limited data with providers who host our infrastructure, deliver email, process payments and provide security tooling. Each is bound by contract to process data only on our instructions.
13. 13. No sale of personal dataPoe AI does not sell personal information and does not share it with data brokers or advertising networks for cross-context behavioural advertising.
14. 14. International transfersData may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, transfers are protected by standard contractual clauses or an equivalent recognised safeguard.
15. 15. RetentionAccount data is kept while your account is active. Conversation history is kept until you delete it or close your account. Backup copies are purged on a rolling schedule not exceeding ninety days.
16. 16. Security measuresWe use encryption in transit, access controls, network segregation and routine review of administrative access. No online service can promise absolute security, and you should choose a strong, unique password.
17. 17. Your access rightsYou may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, in a portable format, free of charge once in any twelve-month period.
18. 18. Correction and deletionYou may correct inaccurate data at any time and request deletion of your account and its conversation history. Deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed.
19. 19. Objection and restrictionWhere processing is based on legitimate interest, you may object. You may also ask us to restrict processing while a dispute about accuracy or lawfulness is resolved.
20. 20. Withdrawing consentWhere we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.
21. 21. Marketing communicationsWe only send promotional email if you opt in. Every message contains an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing does not affect service notices about your account.
22. 22. Do Not TrackBrowsers send Do Not Track signals inconsistently and there is no agreed standard for honouring them, so Poe AI does not respond to them. Cookie preferences remain available instead.
23. 23. Third-party linksPages on Poe AI may link to external websites. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their privacy practices; read their policies before providing information.
24. 24. Data breach notificationIf a breach is likely to result in a high risk to your rights, we will notify affected users and the relevant supervisory authority within the time limits set by applicable law.
25. 25. Children's content safeguardsPoe AI companions are written as adult fictional characters. Content depicting or implying minors is prohibited and any attempt to generate it results in immediate termination.
26. 26. ComplaintsIf you believe your data has been handled improperly, contact us first at privacy@poe-ai.net. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
27. 27. Changes to this policyWe may update this policy as Poe AI evolves. Material changes are announced on this page with a revised date, and continued use afterwards means you accept the updated version.
